Motivational Interviewing is helpful for people with mental illness by assisting them to explore their won goals and to take a more active role in treatment and by supporting people to face the challenges of multiple conditions that impact on their well-being.
PIR funded Matthew Spicer to deliver training to people who work with people who have severe and persistent mental illness and complex needs. The funding meant more people were aware of what is required for motivational interviewing and it gave them the opportunity to blend the new skills with their current skills.
The project involved two-day workshops in three regions for over a hundred people. The project has created a thirst for further training.
